Unit 4 Lesson 1 "Who’s that?”

Objectives:

• by the end of the lesson Pp should be able to use new language in the action game

Pp will practice:

• listening for specific information

• reading for recognition of new language

• sentence stress and rhythm

• speaking (making up and saying a verse)

• writing (copying words)

New language: a cellar, a tower, a garden, a lawn, stairs, tower; There’s a cellar in the castle. There are lawns near the castle.

Recycling: princess, ghost, river, grass, tree, lake, castle, in, near, behind, on, under, want, visit, old; Who’s this?

Materials: letter cards: c,a,s,t,l,e; PCs: cellar, garden, lawn, stairs, tower, castle; computer, disc.

1. Tune – in (5 min)

Hello, my dear children! Sit down, please, and let’s begin our lesson. Today we’ll begin the new theme and now I offer you to guess the title of the theme. Divide into two groups, please (уч-ся делятся на 2 группы). I’ll give some letters to each group ( раздаются буквы c,a,s,t,l,e каждой группе) and you’ll try to make up a word. This word will be the title of our lesson (уч-ся стараются составить слово «castle» из предложенных букв). Well done, my dear, look at the screen, please (на экране слайд 1). Read our theme, please (уч-ся читают название урока). What’s this building? (слайд 2). Is it old? (обсуждение картинки на слайде 2).

2. New language (10 min)

Exercise 1. Look, listen, read and guess. Cartoon story "Who’s that?”

Let’s find exercise 1 in your PBs. Look at the pictures. What are Steve and Wendy doing? (they are reading a book). What is the book about? (it’s about a castle). Let’s listen to story and follow the pictures (уч-ся прослушивают запись. Учитель останавливает запись после слов Стива I think…). What do you think was Steve’s answer? (ответы уч-ся). Listen to the end of the story and check your guesses (проверка предположений уч-ся).

Look at the screen, please. You can see the castle. Each old castle has a cellar, a garden, a tower, stairs and lawn (учитель проговаривает новые слова, при этом на слайде названия помещаются в нужное место). Let’s read all new words after me (проговаривание новых слов вслед за учителем несколько раз). Name the number for "cellar” (number one). Very well, name the number for "tower” (number four)(продолжить с остальными словами).

Listen to the story again and follow the text (прослушивание истории еще раз). Now look at the screen, read the word (слайд 4, слова поднимаются по одному) and find similar words in your PBs. Read the whole phrase, please (уч-ся в тексте ищут слова, показанные на слайде 4, и читают фразы с этим словом).

3. Exercise 2. Look, listen and read (10 min) .

Chant "What’s in the castle?”

And now let’s listen to the chant and look at me. I’ll show you the miming story and then we’ll try to do it together (прослушивание записи. Слайды 5,6,7 (можно не переключать, а просто слушать запись на магнитофоне или компьютере). Учитель показывает движения во время прослушивания: castle – поднимаем руки над головой, образуя прямоугольник; river – показываем уч-ся волну руками; forest – поднимаем руки над головой и машем из стороны в сторону; cellar – присаживаемся и образуем круг руками; ghost – показываем «призрака», «пугая» детей).

Listen to the chant and follow the text (слайды 5, 6, 7). Now I offer you to join the chant. Pp 1,2, 3 – you will be "a castle”, Pp 4, 5, 6 – "forest”, Pp 7, 8, 9 – "river”, Pp 10, 11, 12 – "cellar” and all of you will be "a ghost” at the end (между уч-ся распределяются роли: кто-то будет «замок», кто-то «лес» и т.д., а «призраками» будут все дети в конце записи. Прослушивание записи первый раз – уч-ся показывают свои движения без слов, прослушивание записи второй раз - уч-ся проговаривают и показывают свои роли, а в конце при словах "There’s a ghost. There’s a ghost. There’s a ghost in the cellar” ученики все бегают по классу, показывая призраков и «пугая» друг друга).

4. Exercise 3. Make your own verses (7 min).

And now you will be as the poets. We’ll make up our own verses. Divide into groups of 3 and look at the table (уч-ся делятся на группы; слайд 8 в презентации). Use the examples from the table to make up the verse (ввиду небольшого количества оставшегося времени урока группы детей сочиняют короткие стихи). We are ready to listen your chant (готовые версии зачитываются перед классом, класс в это время показывает прослушиваемый стих движениями).

5. Optional (5 min).

(уч-ся остаются в группах). Look at the screen (слайд 9). You can see some secret words. Work with your group. Try to decode the words and write them in your exercise books. Then we’ll check your answers and get the winner (уч-ся в группах расшифровывают слова, стараясь сделать это быстрее других групп, затем учитель проверяет слова у группы, первой справившейся с заданием (проверка также предусмотрена на слайде).

6. Homework.
